Ceterus announces first in industry support for ITU-T's standard for bonding E1, T1 and DS3 circuits

Allen, TX, September 21, 2004

Ceterus Networks, a leading provider of solutions that help carriers speed their migration from circuit to packet based services, announced today that its products meet the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) G.7043/Y.1343 Virtual Concatenation of PDH Signals recommendation (circuit bonding). The Ceterus Universal Transport System product family is the first in the industry to meet this recommendation for bonding T1, E1, and T3 circuits. Circuit bonding allows the creation of a single high-bandwidth virtual pipe from individual, lower-speed circuits.

"We see this standard as a validation of our overall strategy, which is to create bonding-based multi-service solutions for our customers," said Bill Szeto, Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Ceterus. "Clearly the industry, driven by the service providers, has recognized the need for circuit bonding, not only for delivering flexible data and voice services to enterprises, but also for reducing network infrastructure costs."

The ITU circuit bonding standards are critical to helping service providers deliver high-bandwidth, next-generation services to their enterprise customers. There are millions of copper-based circuits currently in place delivering data and voice to enterprises that need more bandwidth but cannot afford fiber. The new standards will speed deployment of new copper-based approaches, allowing service providers to connect high-speed services to the 90% of businesses not connected by fiber. With circuit bonding technologies, carriers will be able to reduce access costs, to reach every location with high-bandwidth services, and to use existing networks more efficiently.

"Ceterus has a long-standing commitment to standards and interoperability," Szeto continued. "Now that copper-based circuit bonding is a reality, carriers around the world can serve their customers with a scalable, cost-effective solution, regardless of what type of access facilities the customer has."
