Press ReleaseCeterus to Demonstrate Efficient Ethernet Backhaul Solutions at WiMAX WorldAllen, TX, October 11, 2006Ceterus Networks’ Ethernet product family allows carriers to enable existing backhaul circuits to cost effectively support packet services to all towers while maintaining the highest levels of QoS Ceterus Networks, a provider of flexible transport solutions for backhaul and enterprise applications, today announced that the company’s platforms have been enhanced to maximize their effectiveness for wide deployment of next generation wireless data services. With carriers preparing to offer new packet-based services over next generation network technologies, such as WiMAX, cost effectively delivering Ethernet while maintaining very tight latency and jitter specifications are key to their success. The UTS810 and UTS1530 Ethernet access platforms, combined with the UTX8212 Multi-Service Ethernet Access Aggregator, located at the switching center, convert legacy circuits to carry packet services well within the tightest latency specifications. Wireless data service is the fastest growing segment that carriers have today and technologies such as WiMAX will only accelerate the need to modify the backhaul portion of the network. Using the Ceterus products with legacy wireline and wireless backhaul technologies permits the carrier to extend the life of already deployed access and RAN equipment and minimizes the need for costly upgrades. “The discrete T1 circuit is, by far, the most commonly used access transport for North American wireless service providers and will continue to be a backhaul mainstay for many years to come” stated Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics. “Enabling the existing backhaul network to efficiently carry new packet services, such as Internet access, email, video, and VoIP, will help minimize capital expense as the market needs evolve. Operators using Ceterus products have shown them to be robust in helping meet tight latency specifications, necessary to give the mobile telephone user has a quality experience.” “Tower backhaul is one of the most significant issues facing the wireless industry today” said Dave Stehlin, President and CEO at Ceterus Networks. “Ethernet to all towers in a market serving area, reasonable bandwidth costs, low latency and jitter and the migration of legacy services to packet are all concerns that keep carriers up at night, Ceterus solves all of these problems with our robust products.” Designed for delivery of cell tower/WiMAX backhaul as well as for enterprise Ethernet services, the UTS810 and UTS1530 are NEBS 3 certified, and hardened for outside plant applications. Its feature set matches other Universal Transport System products, allowing rich VLAN- or port-based prioritization, multiple class of service queues, and SNMP, TL1 or GUI-based management. The UTS810 and UTS1530 are most cost effectively deployed when integrated with the UTX8212 multi-service cross-connect in a point to multipoint application.
